“…proper styling”.

To steal a term from Lawrence, I think some people use vests as a “style crutch” - a way to “dress up” an otherwise shitty outfit.  I’m not saying it can’t be done, and I used the phrase “unique ability” pseudo-facetiously.  I was trying to make the point that most of the time I see someone don a tweed vest, they look more uncomfortable than if I had just given them a wedgie so hard I snapped the elastic waistband on their Hanes tighty whiteys.
